Read full band bio here.  Not a lot of up-and-coming out-of-town bands come through Delaware, and I'm finding that it's usually well worth it to seek out those shows when they do happen.  What I mean is that 99% of shows here are either super local (nothing wrong with that, but you tend to get the same sounds over and over again), or the bands are big enough to already be selling $25+ seats at the Grand or the Queen.  You usually have to go to Philly or Baltimore to catch bands that are from elsewhere in the country, yet not already extremely well-known, so it's nice when those shows do happen here. I'd go, but, coincidentally, I'll be in Chicago that day.

"Front man Johnson's lyrics have the touch of romantic fatalism and are a throwback to the neo-soul of the nineties and early aughts. It is a sound which also combines jazz funk, blues, and rock with the anthemic pop hooks of now, but without the melisma that characterizes contemporary pop. In the American Idol age, Lost in Company is refreshing, and stays clear of monosyllabic riffs and self-indulgent vocal theatrics; relying instead on Johnson's lyrics, sung with a slight rasp and a sometimes indecipherable drawl. Johnson's voice endows a complexity to the lyrics that might not be otherwise apparent if delivered by another, a sort of semi-impassioned laconic coolness, an ache in his voice to suggest that he is really singing about something he hasn't quite gotten over yet (which for the sake of the Philadelphia music scene, we have to hope he doesn't)."

• Interesting music class: BOSS Loop Station 101 at Accent Music (Kirkwood), conducted by local musician Angela Sheik, who was recently crowned loop station world champion at a competition in Germany.  Learning the art of using a loop station to perform solo is a good idea for any frontman or frontwoman, because it can mean taking gigs that the rest of your band can't do.  I've seen this happen several times.  It takes a lot of skill, but you can actually approximate a full band sound with some planning, practice, and focus, and a good loop station (depending on the band and the genre, of course).  Saturday, 2-5pm, at the Kirkwood Accent store. • World Labyrinth Day (a celebration of labryinths. Not the David Bowie movie) at the Delaware Art Museum.  Meets in the museum's outdoor labyrinth at 1pm.  Free, but donations accepted to help with the labyrinth's upkeep. 
• White Clay Creek Fest in Newark. Noon-4pm, WCC State Park (the flyer doesn't mention which entrance - probably the Carpenter area).  Live music, bird demo, food, face painting, etc. Park entrance fees in effect.
