It's called 'Delaware Fresh', and features the locations of over 80 farm stands and markets in Delaware that feature fresh, local produce. Best yet - it's free. What I like about it is that you could go down to the beach, where you're not necessarily as aware of the different produce stands, say "Man, I'd like to get some fresh watermelon to take on the beach, and I hate to get it at Food Lion when I know there are a bunch of places around here where I can buy a watermelon that was on the vine this morning. But where's the nearest farm stand?" So you open the Delaware Fresh app, and voila. No more driving up and down Coastal Highway because you think you remember seeing a stand somewhere last summer.

88.5 WXPN is asking listeners to vote on favorite artists who've appeared on the radio show World Cafe.
This was brought to my attention by long-time Delaware / Philly outfit Spinto Band, who have appeared on the show (and thus are eligible to get votes).

You know, while I fully support the Queen Theatre, I was a little worried about what it would do to the old Grand down the street. But judging from recent news like this, and from the calibre of show the Grand has been booking, I'm not worried anymore. The Grand is still holding its own quite well.
There are a limited amount of free tickets to Fort Delaware this weekend.
The deal is that it's Price Toyota weekend, and as such, there will be cars on display around the mainland offices of Fort Delaware. But the car dealership will also be giving away 100 free tickets to the Fort, per day (limited to 2 per group or family). I don't know how this is going to work, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
Fort Delaware is, of course, one of Delaware's state parks, and an old Civil War prison, located in Delaware City just south of New Castle.

New documentary/gimmick from Morgan Spurlock, who gave us the gross-out fast food documentary Super Size Me, about product placement and the movie industry. Part of the film involves his attempts to find a company that will fund the film in return for placement in the very title of the movie. Obviously, POM Wonderful is the company that takes the bite. I'd be curious to find out what affect this has on their sales figures, in the long run.

Delaware Greenways unveils historic farm near old New Castle.
The Penn Farm, a 112 acre farm that is one of the oldest active farms in the country, is owned by the Trustees of the New Castle Commons. However, Delaware Greenways have taken over the management of the farm and turned it into an education resource to teach Delawareans about healthy and local eating. Why is it called The Penn Farm? Because it's the last remaining of the farms that was originally laid out as a tenant farm by William Penn himself. As such it's an important piece of Delaware history, so it only makes sense for it to be open to the public.
The Penn Farm, located on Frenchtown Rd (273), won't just be frozen in time and used for education, however. It will continue to operate as a farm, with produce available at a local market called Tract 6.

Bike donations pour in for Urban Bike Project at an annual meeting of the White Clay Bicycle Club.
As mentioned earlier, the Urban Bike Project, which provides bikes and bike maintenance classes to youths in Wilmington, was heart-breakingly vandalized and robbed of all of their inventory a couple of weeks ago. The good news is that donations have been pouring in since then, especially from the members of the White Clay Bicycle Club, who hauled dozens of bikes of all kinds, many in new condition, to UBP's warehouse on North Market Street last Saturday.
The other silver lining is that many people who were previously totally unaware of UBP's mission are now aware, and sympathetic. UBP just might come out of this as a bigger presence in Wilmington than they were before the robbery.

I actually posted this days ago and just realized that it got caught-up in the "drafts" vortex that Blogger has going (sometimes when you hit 'publish', a post goes into 'draft' mode instead, without your knowing it. And it doesn't show up when that happens. Very frustrating thing I've run into at least once a week).

Remember to check on your elderly relatives and neighbors when it gets this hot out. Even if you know in your heart that they know how to handle themselves in this kind of heat, and you stopping by will probably disturb their peaceful afternoon in the basement (doesn't everybody's grandmother refuse to use air-conditioning and set up camp in the basement all summer?) and make the person excitedly run outside to show you his/her tomato plants. Dutch & German with English subtitles. Critically acclaimed film about two Dutch boys in Nazi-occupied Holland who have run-ins with the local occupying forces as they come of age. Saturday at 2, Friday at 2 & 8, Sunday at noon, and... Monday at 7pm? That's what the website says. $5-$7

Dear Out & About:
Please make it easier to find information on 1) cost and 2) voting process of your Musikarmageddon series. I've just wasted a half hour trying to find out if there is a cover charge for the Logan House show tonight. There's literally not one word online - not on Logan House's website, not on Out & About's Musikarmageddon info site - on cover charge or voting process. So we called Logan House. The person who answered thought it might be $5, but said Out & About is really in charge of that. We called Out & About, and were told something vague and not reassuring about paying to vote, not to get in. Just spell it out on the info website Out & About set up for the Musikarmageddon. Shouldn't be that hard to do, right?
