FRIDAY 11/8:

General Events:
Concerts:
  • Mostly-female Police tribute band The Rent-A-Cops are at WCL at the Queen, with a local Bowie tribute act opening. $8. Ticket link here.
  • At 1984: Self-Checkout, Sheep & the Shears, Pulling Punches. Around $5.
  • Aaron Neville and his oft-imitated vocal vibrato are at the Grand Opera House. $37-$45. Ticket link here.
  • The Kennedys and J.D. Malone are at the Kennett Flash. $18-$20.
  • Grateful Dead tribute at the Note in West Chester. $10.
  • Harry Spencer band at the Nomad Bar.
  • Hip hop show at Mojo Main.

  • Split Red (veterans of many Philly experimental bands) is at Kung Fu Necktie. 8pm show.
  • Circle Takes the Square is at First Unitarian Church BUT you should see them instead at Mojo Main on Saturday.  Support local business!
  • The B-52s at the Keswick. $70-$80.
  • West Philadelphia Orchestra at Underground Arts. $10.
  • Less Than Jake, Anti-Flag, and 2 more openers at the Trocadero. $20.
  • Paramore, Metric, and Hellogoodbye are at Susquehanna Bank Ctr. $30-$50.
  • Sold-out at Union Transfer: The Head & The Heart with Thao & the Get Down Stay Down.

SATURDAY 11/9:

General Events:
  • Museum: Adult-only "Science After Dark" event at DE Museum of Natural History. Theme: science of the ice age. Alcohol available (cash bar, I'm guessing). "Fossil expert Don Miller will be on-hand to discuss extinct creatures from the past. Enjoy interactive games, scavenger hunts, special exhibits, and more". $10. http://www.delmnh.org/ScienceAfterDark.php
  • Film: Showings at Theatre N: The Spectacular Now and Inequality For All. http://www.theatern.org/Films
  • Festival: Newark Arts Alliance has their 5th annual Harvest Arts Festival. Exhibitors, artist demonstrations, live music, kids activities. Noon-5pm, free. Raindate Sunday.
  • Book-signing: 4 local authors will be at 2nd & Charles (Christiana, site of the old Borders) to sign their books. Noon-4pm. http://www.writtenremains.org/
Concerts:
  • Debo Band is at Arden Gild Hall. "Funk, soul and free jazz", with a CD named one of NPR's favorites of 2012. $22-$24. Ticket link here.
  • The Bullets (rockabilly) at The Oddity Bar (newish bar on Greenhill Ave in west Wilmington that's featuring original bands and DJs. Glad to have another to add to the mix!). Free.
  • Touring show at Mojo Main: Circle Takes the Square ("experimental punk from Savannah GA") - they're playing First Unitarian Church the night before, so this is a good score for Mojo Main. Also B Dolan and 3-4 more opening bands. 8pm, $13-$15.
  • 3 Stories High and Jennifer Yuill at WCL at the Queen. $12.
  • Big blues show at the Grand Opera House, with the Taj Mahal Trio, Vusi Mahlasela, and Fredericks Brown. $36-$44. Ticket link here.
  • Spontaneous Underground at the Nomad Bar.

  • My Bloody Valentine is at the Electric Factory. $37.  Wow - take a noisy wall-of-sound band and throw them in the most acoustically boomy room in town...that's either going to be a great show or the stuff of nightmares. 
  • Spindrift (long-running band that started out in Newark) headline the early show at Kung Fu Necktie. 2 openers. 6pm.
  • Carbon Leaf and Von Grey are at WCL Philly. $20-$23.
  • Melissa Ferrick is at the New Hope Winery. $25.
  • Toad the Wet Sprocket is at the Keswick.
  • Sold-out at Union Transfer: The Head & The Heart with Thao & the Get Down Stay Down.

  • The Elvis Costello show at the Merriam Theatre is sold-out.
