FRIDAY 7/20:
General Events:
Concerts:
  • Jeffrey Gaines cd release show at the Kennett Flash.  This guy must draw well around here.  I thought he was a little more national, but he seems to play the area once a month.  And now a cd release show in Kennett Square, of all places?  Strange.  http://www.kennettflash.org/tickets.html
  • XPoNential Music Festival in Camden: Dawes, The War On Drugs, The Lumineers, The Hold Steady, Ozomatli, JC Brooks, and City Rain.
  • Yes at the Tower Theatre.
  • Sleigh Bells, Twin Shadow, and Phantogram at Festival Pier in Philly.
  • River City Extension, The Spinning Leaves, and Brick and Mortar at Union Transfer.
  • Is it wrong that I automatically veto any performer I'm researching who won or placed well in a tv singing show?  Maybe I'm not giving creedence to some truly great performers.  But I can't get past my hang-up about shows like The Voice being a bullshit way to achieve musical fame.

FRIDAY 7/13:

SATURDAY 7/14:

General Events:

  • Showings of Elena, The Samaritan, 1945's Children of Paradise, and classic animated film An American Tail at Theatre N. http://www.theatern.org/Films
Concerts:
  • Touring Chicago indie-synth-pop band at the Chris White Gallery in the Shipley Lofts, downtown: Wolf in a Spacesuit with Spooky Cheddar, presented by Gable Music Ventures, 8-11pm, FREE. Read full band bio here.  Not a lot of up-and-coming out-of-town bands come through Delaware, and I'm finding that it's usually well worth it to seek out those shows when they do happen.  What I mean is that 99% of shows here are either super local (nothing wrong with that, but you tend to get the same sounds over and over again), or the bands are big enough to already be selling $25+ seats at the Grand or the Queen.  You usually have to go to Philly or Baltimore to catch bands that are from elsewhere in the country, yet not already extremely well-known, so it's nice when those shows do happen here. I'd go, but, coincidentally, I'll be in Chicago that day.
  • Katie Dill plays a Mean Lady solo show at Logan House.
  • Victoria Spaeth & the Spaeth Cadets at the Queen with Ross Bellenoit (from Philly - has some top-notch musicians in his band) & A Fistful of Sugar. Should be a good show.
  • Also at the Queen: Queen Summer Bash, with a bunch of local bands that appear to be very new on the scene (no official websites yet, for instance).
  • The Pains of Being Pure at Heart play a free show at Morgan's Pier in Philly.
  • Roger Waters at Citizens Bank Park.
  • Hop Along at Johnny Brenda's.
  • El-P with Asher Roth, Killer Mike, and Despot at the Trocadero.
  • Jazz jam session at The Nomad Bar at 9th & Orange. Every Saturday, 4-7:30pm, FREE.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SUNDAY 7/15:
