LCD Soundsystem movie coming to Theatre N in July, care of the Arden Club.

Press release:

Shut Up and Play the Hits! Starring LCD SOUNDSYSTEM
Shut Up and Play the Hits!
Starring LCD SOUNDSYSTEM
Wednesday, July 18
Theatre N at Nemours
11th & Tatnall
Wilmington, DE 19801

Tickets $12, available June 8, 2012

For one night only, you can experience the band you should have been listening to for years. Arden Concerts presents LCD SOUNDSYSTEM's documentary "Shut up and Play the Hits" at Theatre N at Nemours on July 18, 2012.

On April 2nd, 2011, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM played its final show at Madison Square Garden. LCD frontman James Murphy had made the conscious decision to disband one of the most celebrated and influential bands of its generation at the peak of its popularity, ensuring that the band would go out on top with the biggest and most ambitious concert of its career. The instantly sold out, near four-hour extravaganza did just that, moving the thousands in attendance to tears of joy and grief, with New York Magazine calling the event "a marvel of pure craft" and TIME magazine lamenting "we may never dance again." SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS is simultaneously a document of a once-in-a-lifetime performance and an intimate portrait of Murphy as he navigates both the personal and professional ramifications of his decision.

The film was directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace and is being distributed by Oscilloscope Pictures (the distribution company of late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch). It will be released in theaters across America for a special "one-night only engagement" on July 18th.

Before his unfortunate passing Yauch said of the band: "It can be pretty clear when a band starts, but perhaps less so when it ends, or how it should end. In that sense, it's brilliant of James [Murphy] to end it in such a definitive way."

James Murphy said of the final show, "If it's a funeral . . . let's have the best funeral ever!!!" and encouraged everyone to wear black or white or black and white. In the spirit of the event, we are requesting the same.

Firefly Music Festival news:

They've just sold out of 3 day passes, and are now offering a limited number of single day passes, starting at noon today (Friday).  This has ticked off many of the concert-goers, who say they were repeatedly told no single day passes would ever be sold for this festival, thus forcing them to pony up for the whole 3 days.

Space Boy Clothing news:

This week, their Market Street location will be closed as they close up shop at their Elsmere location, and move all of those goods to Market Street.

Also, if you use Instagram (the Twitter-connected photo sharing service), they will put any Instagram photo of yours on a t-shirt for $25.  I've seen one that a friend of a friend had made, and it was very well done.

More news from the Spinto Band - this week, they're guest editors at Magnet Magazine

Before I go further: I know I mention Spinto Band a lot, but it's not because I'm their biggest fan.  It's because they could easily claim to be from Philadelphia, but they don't. Instead, they're putting Wilmington on the map in indie rock circles.  Who else is being featured in national magazines at the moment, calling themselves a band from Wilmington, Delaware?  So now, when the Arden Club is trying to draw national and regional acts to Gild Hall, ditto The Grand or The Queen, Wilmington may seem like a more attractive place to play.  More good music in Wilmington = more kids coming up with a less mainstream taste in music = more people helping to create a decent scene here.  Okay, it's a stretch, but Rome wasn't built in a day.  The whole idea of this blog is to encourage the development of a true progressive scene in Wilmington, one that's an alternative to the overgrown-fratboy/girl crowd, and that is why I support the Spinto Band.
As guest editors for Magnet, the band has so far interviewed a graphic artist who helped with their new album cover, written about hacking an old Nintendo game, and introduced us to an Arabic brand of chewing gum.  Expect several new posts a day from the guys, here:

Spinto Band releases short film / live performance video, directed by Nate Johnson, and filmed in Hockessin

It's 23 minutes long, but well worth the time.  It was filmed at the Spinto Band's studio (apparently soon to be razed for a housing development, although there are rumors that the main street will be named Spinto Road), which is an old garden center in Hockessin, near the Wawa there.  Parts were also filmed at Lantana Shopping Center, mostly at Capriotti's Subs.  Seriously - good luck resisting the urge to run out and get a Bobbie after watching this.  Capriotti's really needs to throw a sponsorship the band's way, I think.

Nate Johnson has produced other interesting short films - check out the other ones if you like this one.

Let's play: How Many Errors Can You Spot on This Event Listing on the InWilmington Website?

We all make mistakes, and I don't claim to use perfect grammar myself, but come on. Whoever wrote this needs to have someone read over her work.

This is an event listing for Wednesdays on the Waterfront, a weekly wine-tasting cruise at Dravo Plazo.

*Reservations are strongly recommended to insure a seat.
You're not paying money to Liberty Mutual so that you get a refund should something go wrong.  The writer means ensure

*We will accept all reservation’s first if there is space available we will open to the general waiting public.  Here you have a missplaced apostrophe, as well as a run-on sentence.

*The vessel leave Dravo Dock no later than 5min after the schedule time.
This is followed by another run-on sentence.

*In the event of in climate weather we will not operate.
The writer means inclement - a related, but totally different word.

*We will make every attempted to contact people

Seriously, InWilmington?  I know you just post press releases as you get them, but sometimes you should do a little bit of editing before these get typed in, no?
