  • Literary Theatre: Delaware Shakespeare Festival presents a night of Shakespeare and Poe readings, at the Newark Arts Alliance (on Saturday it will come to North Wilmington). Tickets are $18.50. More info.

Concerts:
  • The Elk-Tones, a once popular local surf-rock band that split up in 2006 (has it really been that long??), has their reunion at Mojo Main. I think it would be fair to say they were the Mean Lady of their day - accessible, fun pop music that a variety of people could get behind, whether folks who had an ear for music or college kids just looking for upbeat background music to drink to. Locals Coffin Fly and Tin Can Ramblers open. 9pm, $7.

  • At the Arden Gild Hall: Lee Fields & the Expressions.  Lee Fields is a soul singer who has been steadily releasing albums since 1969. "With a catalogue that ranges from James Brown-style funk to lo-fi blues to contemporary Southern soul to collaborations with a French house DJ, Lee Fields has done it all." The Expressions are the house band of Field's current record label. Read: this band is going to be tight as shit, a la the Funk Brothers or the MGs.
