This weekend, September 13-15:

~~~~~~~~~~~~
FRIDAY:
General Events:
  • Film: The Delaware Art Museum is hosting an outdoor showing of iconic 1956 children's film The Red Balloon. It's being billed as a family movie screening, but I don't think you need to have kids to appreciate this French film classic about a red balloon's journey across Paris. 6:30-8pm in the Copeland sculpture garden, free.  Rain date is Sunday. http://www.delart.org/film
  • Film: Showings at Theatre N - Almodovar's I'm So Excited and Rushdie's Midnight's Children. http://www.theatern.org/Films
  • Musical Theatre: A Chorus Line is opening at New Candlelight Dinner Theatre in Arden.  It will run until early November. $33-$56. http://www.nctstage.org/home.html
  • Market: Kennett Square year-round Farmers Market, 2-6pm Fridays on State Street.
Concerts:
  • Really nice show at WCL at the Queen: Califone and Richard Buckner. I've seen both of these mainstays live, and both deliver.  If you miss it, this duo is playing WCL Philly on Saturday. 8pm, $12-$14. Ticket link.
~In Philly and beyond~
  • Cheers Elephant and The Great White Caps play at Ortlieb's in Northern Liberties. 21+, 10pm, $8.
  • Toy Soldiers at Johnny Brenda's. Doors at 8, $10-$12. Info link.
SATURDAY:
General Events:
Concerts:
  • A fun, inexpensive night on Lower Market: Rick James tribute upstairs at WCL at the Queen, featuring Universal Funk Order, Corey Osby ("as Rick James"), Brian Fitzy, and Arielle Fahrner ("as Teena Marie").  All ages, 8pm, $8. Ticket link.
  • Stallions headline a 4-band local bill at Mojo Main.  I like that in their bio, under "artists we like", the names listed are almost all local bands.  It's good to see local bands supporting eachother. 9pm, $5. Show info.
  • The Dead Milkmen headline a 3-band bill at The Note in West Chester. All ages, doors at 7, $20. Ticket link.
  • Also at the Queen: The Spring Standards, with indie-folk band Brethren opening. This show, billed as a "welcome back students" show, is free with valid student ID. $15-$17 for the rest of us. Ticket link.
~In Philly and beyond~
  • Kishi Bashi (avant-violin-driven) and Elizabeth & the Catapult (this lady puts on a hell of a show, get there on time for her set if you go!) at First Unitarian Church.  Added to open at the last minute: Birdie Busch!  All ages, doors at 8/music 8:30, $15-$17. Info link.
