General Events:

  • Theatre: Avenue Q, the irreverent adult version of Sesame Street, opens tonight at the Wilmington Drama League, where it will run into October 6th. http://wilmingtondramaleague.org/
  • Art: the monthly Clay Date is happening at the Delaware Art Museum. 7pm, $35. http://www.delart.org/adult_prog/sac_claydate
  • Film: A family movie, Hoot, is being shown at Brandywine Creek State Park. Hoot, a 2006 film starring Owen Wilson and based on a novel by Carl Hiassen, is about a young man who gets involved in efforts to save a population of endangered owls. Bring a blanket. 8pm, $5. More info.
  • Market: Kennett Square year-round Farmers Market, 2-6pm Fridays on State Street.
  • Art: There's an adult event at the Delaware Art Museum - involving painting on wine glasses - but it's looking like the event is possibly full.  More details here.
  • Drum Circle: a drum circle happens at the Newark Arts Alliance every 4th Friday, led by Lorelei of Delaware Belly Dance. 7-8:30pm, free, though donations to Newark Arts Alliance are accepted. http://delawarebellydance.org/drum.html
Concerts:
  • Free local band show at the Queen!: The Future Unwritten, Kind of Creatures, and the Joe Trainor Trio play WCL at the Queen. All ages, music at 7pm, free. More info.

  • There's a NC-based Bowie tribute band at WCL Philly: Wham Bam Bowie Band. All ages, $12. Ticket link.
  • Jonny Lang is at the Keswick. Tickets are $30-$45.
  • Jim Weider's Project Percolator is at Building 24 in Wyomissing, PA.  Jim Weider played guitar for The Band, Bob Dylan, Los Lobos, Keith Richards, Rat Dog, Taj Mahal, and others. His touring line-up include veterans of all of these bands. $23. Ticket link.
  • Sold-Out. Long-running Princeton, NJ band Saves The Day are at Union Transfer, with Into It. Over It. Sold-Out.
  • Chris Kasper and Hezekiah Jones share another bill at WCL Philly. $12.

  • Film: Movie night at the DE Museum of Natural History, with Night at the Museum 2. They're saying to bring a blanket to sit on. 7:30 pm, totally free.
  • Historic car show: The Marshall Steam Museum at the Auburn Heights Preserve is having their annual classic car show. 12:30-4:30 pm, $18-$22.  Leave time for a stroll around: I just went walking in that preserve for the first time, and it is beautiful.  More info.
Concerts:
  • Lili Anel and John Byrne are at WCL at the Queen, for only $10. Ticket link.
  • Graham Nash at the Grand Opera House. $37-$45. Ticket link.
  • The Tressels (called "Best bar band in Delco" by XPN's John Vettese) headline a 4-band-bill at Mojo Main. Music at 9, $5.
  • For the Tommy Conwell and The Hooters crowd, there's Ben LeRoy & The Snap, also at WCL at the Queen tonight. Ticket link.

  • Local Natives and Wild Nothing are at the Electric Factory. $25. Ticket link.
  • Free, small music festival in Pottstown, courtesy of the Sly Fox brewery: Tin Soldiers, Swift Technique, The Lawsuits, John Train, and a couple more. Noon-10pm, free.  More info.
  • Robbie Fulks, the witty, genre-hopping Chicago-based country singer who is legendary but not mainstream, is playing at the Sellersville Theatre.  Here's a review Fresh Air's (NPR) Ken Tucker just did of his latest album.  Though I'm not a country fan outside of old Hank Williams tunes, he is one of my personal favorite artists, and he rarely plays in the area.  $21.50.  Ticket link. 
  • The Millenial Territory Orchestra performs the music of Sly & the Family Stone, on the UPenn campus at 40th Street Field. 6pm, free. More info.
  • For the guitar buffs: Joe Satriani and Steve Morse play at the Tower. $40-$70.
  • Grouplove is at Union Transfer, but it's sold-out.

  • Craft preservation: (Okay, this is one for an older crowd, maybe, but I think it's nice.  And it's free).  Learn about the care, repair, and storage of old and new quilts, from an expert.  Bring quilts that you have specific questions about.  At the Blue Ball Barn off of 202, in Alapocas Run State Park.  1:30pm, free.   • Local singer-songwriter mainstay Lori Citro is at the Kennett Flash. $15
  • Screaming Females, Waxahatchee, Trophy Wife, and Tenement are at the First Unitarian Church. $12.
