SATURDAY 5/12:

General Events:
  • Mother's Day idea?: Tea in Trinitiy Vicinity: teas, pastries, and carriage rides on "honeymoon row".  $10 adults, free for children under 12. 1-4pm. More details here.
  • Interesting music class: BOSS Loop Station 101 at Accent Music (Kirkwood), conducted by local musician Angela Sheik, who was recently crowned loop station world champion at a competition in Germany.  Learning the art of using a loop station to perform solo is a good idea for any frontman or frontwoman, because it can mean taking gigs that the rest of your band can't do.  I've seen this happen several times.  It takes a lot of skill, but you can actually approximate a full band sound with some planning, practice, and focus, and a good loop station (depending on the band and the genre, of course).  Saturday, 2-5pm, at the Kirkwood Accent store. Facebook event details.
  • Showings of The Perfect Family and Monsieur Lazhar (which got a rave review from Fresh Air with Terry Gross's movie critic) at Theatre N. http://www.theatern.org/Films
Concerts:
  • Regina Spektor at the Tower Theatre.
  • Hometown Heroes' Spring Fling at the Queen, feat.: Stallions, Electric Blue Concept, and more. 6pm, $13
  • KRS-1 with The 49ers and more at Mojo Main.
  • Wilmington's New Sweden at Kung Fu Necktie, with Cabin Dogs.  This is a nice headlining show for the group.
  • M. Ward and Lee Renaldo at Union Transfer.
  • Mark Lanegan at the TLA.
  • Jazz jam session at The Nomad Bar at 9th & Orange.  Every Saturday, 4-7:30pm, FREE.
  • The Ingrid Michaelson show at the Electric Factory is long sold-out.
