Volunteer opportunities: receptionist for a food closet, multi-positions for Faithful Friends

"Richardson Park Community Action Program is in need of filling 2 volunteer positions. The client services volunteers will help with our food closet by interviewing clients, helping with food orders, inputting information into excel, and light filing.
The receptionist is responsible for helping clients when they first walk through the door and directing them to the appropriate person.

"Volunteer Positions
1.Cat Care at the Faithful Friends' Shelter - Are you a cat person? Then this position is right up your alley! While it is not the most glamorous job, it is definitely very rewarding. In this position you will help to feed and clean our cat cages, do laundry and also administer any medication that is needed. This job involves a lot of work that we take seriously, but we also have fun and make new friends. Help us provide food, clean bedding and litter to all of our fantastic cats! Then enjoy being thanked by lots of purrs and hugs. Opportunities 7 days a week -- Morning or evening shifts.
2.Cat Care @ Pet Stores - Our off-site adoption locations include: Petco Christiana, Petco Kirkwood Highway and Concord Pet West Chester. Responsibilities include feeding, cleaning & socializing. Some age restrictions apply. 7 days a week - Morning or evening shifts.
3.Cat Cuddlers - Cats do not always get adopted quickly because there are so many homeless cats. You can help us socialize our fantastic cats by spending some time with them at our shelter. Volunteers spend time with the cats, brush, play with, pet and/or hold cats. This position is good for a younger person, senior, or those that have experience with shy cats. Opportunity takes place at the Faithful Friends' Shelter -- Wednesday thru Sundays from 1-4pm.
4.Dog Care / Dog Exercise - Our dogs can't wait to met you! We generally have 30-50 dogs at our shelter, and they love when our dog care takers come to take them for nice walks. This opportunity also involves assisting with laundry, trash removal and sweeping & mopping the dog area. Don't forget to scoop the poop on walks! 7 days a week - Morning or evening shifts. Volunteers must be 16 years of age to assist in our kennel area.
5.Foster Care - Foster homes are always welcome and especially needed for mama cats & kittens! Please consider giving a temporary, loving home to some of our animals in need. We ask our foster parents to provide warmth, love, attention and socialization. We provide all medical supplies and food that is needed. Approved foster application is required.
6.Healthy Pet Clinics - Vaccination clinics are held twice a month on Saturday mornings. Volunteers assist by registering customer and, filling out vaccination forms. Healthy Pet Clinics are held both onsite at Faithful Friends and at different community center locations throughout the county. 2 Saturdays/month - 9am -- Noon.
7.Spay/Neuter Clinics - We spay/neuter our animals before adoption and we offer low-cost spay/neutering for those on public assistance and persons caring for stray cats. We need a variety of volunteers to make our clinics run smoothly. Volunteers are needed to help with prep and paperwork, take the animals' weight and temperature, and monitor the animals after recovery. We are always looking for persons with a medical background or who are training as a Veterinarian Technician to help with surgery. Surgical Clinics occur several times a week at Faithful Friends' Clinic. Opportunities vary - Tuesday through Saturdays between 9am and 7pm.
8.Greeter / Adoption Counselor - Interested in learning more about our animals & adoption process? This opportunity is for you! Help escort visitors to the animal departments and walk them through the adoption process. A great opportunitiy for those interested in promoting our animals and assisting potential adopters. Wed-Fri 4-7pm, Sat/Sun 1-4pm.
9.Laundry / Dishes - It may seem like a little task, but it goes a long way! We know laundry is not a glamorous job, but our animals depend on clean bedding for their health and comfort. We need your help to keep our clean linens and bedding stocked. Consider contributing a couple hours to this department and be a part of our dedicated laundry team! Shifts are flexible.
10.General Cleaning - We try to stay tidy, but imagine the messes we make! General cleaners are always needed to help us keep up our clean & comfortable environment. . .for our animals and our guests. Shifts are flexible.
11.Office Work - Have a talent for handling temperamental copy machines? Data entry? Filing? You've come to the right place. In this position you would report to the Office Manager or a Program Manager to work either in the office or from home. It includes typing, faxing, copying, answering phones, taking messages, preparing mailings, and filing. Shifts are flexible.
12.Maintenance - If you have a knack for fixing things, odd jobs, painting, etc. Let us know! We can always use extra hands.
13.Pet Therapy Program - Have a friendly pet? Willing to provided visit with your pet to local facilities and programs? Or could you or your group benefit from coming into the shelter and working with animals? Learn more!
14.Fundraising & Development - Faithful Friends relies on fundraisers and private donations for much of our operating budget. We have two large events each year, Barkitecture (April) and Fall Festival for the Animals (October), each with committees guiding their planning. Consider joining one of these committees to be a part of these unique events. Other opportunities: Development Committee, Young Professionals Fundraising Committee, PitStop Committee.
15.Marketing / Graphic Design - We pride ourselves on our printed material and promotion and most of it is completed by our volunteer graphic designers. If you have design talent, consider joining this team. Our Marketing Committee is always looking for new members to help promote Faithful Friends and our upcoming events.
16.Pet "Life" Line - Looking to make an impact on the community. This resource hotline assists community members who need assistance with anything from low-cost vaccination information to relinquishing a pet. Those in need of resources leave messages on the hotline and our Life Line volunteers respond to these call for assistance. Resources manual and training is provided. This opportunity can be done from home.
17.Adoption Days / Community Events - This opportunity provides a fun way to promote Faithful Friends, meet new people, and spend some time outside. Our events schedule is year-round, but picks up during the spring and summer months to include outdoor adoption days at local pet stores and community fairs. Help promote Faithful Friends at our table, or help transport and handle adoptable animals.
18.Outreach / Cat Trapping - Our TNR (Trap/Neuter/Release) Program is a continuous effort within the community to help prevent unwanted litters of kittens. Work with our Outreach Manager to trap feral cats, bring them into our Spay/Neuter Clinics, and re-release to safe, caring environments.

(Non-sequitor aside: I once had a boss who said "It's a shame people call it 'Browntown'.  That's so racist".  Actually, the name Browntown goes back to the days when this was exclusively a Polish-American neighborhood, and probably before then.  Nothing to do with the color of the inhabitants).
