Friday:

  • Ballroom dancing benefit at Harry's Savoy.  Local celebs dance in a competition, viewers vote. 6-10pm. $50 for a pair of tickets, $30 for single ticket. Benefits 'Variety, The Children's Charity', which is one of the oldest children's charities in the world, according to their site.   • Midnight showing of The Warriors at the Trocadero.  Costumes encouraged. 21+, doors at 10/show at 12, $3.


Saturday:



  • Zachary Lowe BBQ & Beer Benefit at Bank Shots Rt. 40.  Zachary Lowe is a young boy, and also the son of the drummer from Hallowed Cain, with a type of malignant bone cancer.  3-8pm, $20 gets you all the food & beer you care to eat/drink.  At 8pm the cover charge drops to $10.  There will also be an auction of some kind.  Facebook event page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=189522764433386

  • Newark Beer Fest.  The only info I can find is that it's from 6pm-8pm at Mojo Main, $5, with music (see below) happening afterwards.

  • Comedian Tim Minchin at the TLA.

  • Free noon show at The Queen with the sexy-named Jacopo De Nicola.

  • XPo-Nential Music Festival, Camden waterfront.   • Cuban jazz singer Venissa Santi at the Phila. Museum of Art's "Art After 5" event.

  • Alison Krauss & Union Station at the Academy of Music.  8pm,  $75.  

  • William Elliot Whitmore and Hoots & Hellmouth's Andrew Gray (solo) at Johnny Brenda's.  21+, doors at 8, $10.

  • Alo Brasil (Philadelphia multi-generational Brazilian band) at WCL Philly. Doors at 8:30, $20-$30. 

Saturday:

  • 2nd & Loma (Lower Market) Summer Music Series, with The Paper Janes and Battleshy Youths.  At the Film Brothers' Co-Op, 205 N. Market 6:30pm. $6, or $20 for a family of 4.

  • Donavan Frankenreiter (him of the super creepy publicity photo) at The Queen. 8pm, $20.

  • XPo-Nential Music Festival, Camden waterfront.  Saturday performances include Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Booker T., Sun Airway, Hezekiah Jones, Dar Williams, Ted Leo, and Keb' Mo'.   Tickets are $20-$65 depending on if you're an XPN member and if you're buying a 1 day or 3 day pass.  http://www.xpn.org/concerts-events/festival11

  • Newark Beer Fest event with the Sin City Band and some other goofily-named bands at Mojo Main.  21+, beerfest starts at 6pm, $5.  It looks like the music starts at 9, but I'm seeing conflicting info online, so you might want to call Mojo Main.

  • Rose Hill Drive, New Motels, and Homesick Elephant (previously the popular Philly duo Cheese On Bread).  North Star Bar, 21+, doors at 8, $10.

  • (Lunchtime show) The Swirlies at Johnny Brenda's, 21+, show at 2, $10.

  • Controlled Bleeding and (veteran local band) The Collingwood at Kung Fu Necktie.  21+, doors at 7, $10. 

Sunday:


  • XPo-Nential Music Festival, Camden waterfront. Sunday performances include Emmylou Harris, Susan Werner, Kuf Knotz,  Carbon Leaf, Jukebox the Ghost, Ben Folds, and Ra Ra Riot.
